gen's wedding

here is a little preview of the wedding. gen wanted some portraits that were a little grainy looking, so i used 400 ISO, to get that natural noise, rather than doing it in post production.

the wedding went really well. this is my first one, and it was quite the challenge, as it was a winter wedding. no sunlight and dark interiors. BUT, it was really quite fun. ashley helped me out by being a second shooter and all the shots turned out great.

on another note, i have taken in all my 4x5 negs to get developed. they were ready today, but i forgot. i will not have them scanned for awhile, as i don't have a proper scanner, but i will figure something out.

This is a photo I took the other day, that has been reproduced on the 4×5. This is of Andrew, but I have also shot my entire family and my sisters friend, Chris, for this project. They are being developed tomorrow, so hopefully I will have them up soon. I didn’t have a light meter, just used my DSLR, so hopefully they turn out. I also don’t have a scanner, so I’ll have to track one down to use.

I am really excited to see what I get, and even more excited that I have all this gear for a few weeks. It really is a great treat. Having not shot anything I really love to shoot in a while (I love the challenge of lighting scenes), I really am beyond ecstatic.

Tested out an old flash today. Seems to work out pretty well. Here is what I came up with.

I HAVE ROIDS...

...Polaroids that is! And lots of 'em. It has been quite some time since scanning in some roids, so I thought it might be a good idea to get to it!

A brief history of my roids:

I had been shooting my roids with a Polaroid camera my mum bought me for the car rally in grade 12. It wasn't a cool thing to have an instant camera back then, but in order to win the rally, we needed proof that we did these crazy things. I decided a Polaroid was the answer.

It collected dust in my closet for years, until an obsession with the lost art surfaced, and I put some film in it. I used it for a year, or so, until someone spilled beer on it and it no longer worked. I had a brief stint with a friends camera while I was away in Calgary and Edmonton, then once again, was without.

I had been looking for one in Ottawa for about 3 months, before that glorious day that I walked in the the CTC and saw it there. Glad I wanted a coffee that morning, otherwise I would have never gone into the store.

So, in celebration of my last two boxes of film, until I can afford to buy more online that is, I thought I would upload some of my favorite shots. They are from trips to New York, Calgary and Edmonton and some are just from home.

Montreal

I was in Montreal last week for a hip hop show... N.E.R.D. and Common, to be specific. Naturally, I brought five cameras with me (only used 2, as I forgot my light meter and was shooting FILM). I mostly shot with my point and shoot ELPH at a high ISO, as I don't like flash, unless I can control it.

Here is what I came up with. The second image has to be my favorite. Something about it sings VICE in my head. Wasted people partying and having a good time, HA! Or maybe I just like it cuz it's me...? Nah, that can't be it.

Summer of Love

Summer.

This was a great summer.

I moved in with Ashley, started working with Tony, and best of all, met an amazing boy.

It was an easy summer, with lots of Lomography, but I am ready to get a little more serious. The downtime was necessary, as school and my surroundings were really dragging me down, but now I am back on track and more excited than ever! I just bought an ELPH and let me tell you, those are loads of fun!!! (you should get one)

I am saving to buy a light, so I can shoot like crazy over the cold months... fantastic!

I will leave you with some shots from our last picnic, and from a funny night of drinking!

I should also point out that I didn't take the first one, Andrew did. Credit where credit is due :P

Festival X

Friday night was the first night of the second annual Festival X. This is a pretty awesome festival, showcasing some of the best talent Ottawa has to offer. There is, of course, some crap too!

I went with Andrew. We hit up Tony's show at La Petite Mort first. RAD SHOW! Tony shot all on a 4x5... which is the camera that I love the most in this miniscule thing we call the Earth. It challenges all other cameras for quality and none come close... in my opinion anyway.

A few weeks ago, I spent a few days at the cottage. It was loads of fun and a perfect excuse to pull out the lomo for some fun shots.

Kinda wish it had the 'bulb' setting though. Ah well...

The last image is a frame of the burbs in Barrhaven. I want to do a series out there, but am in need of a 4x5 to do so. That will come next month hopefully.

No Website

Given that I haven't got my website up and running, due to technical difficulties, I thought using this as my temporary site would work.

I am planning on doing a series on suburbia, on the 4x5. This will probably be an entire summer worth of shooting. First things first though, I need to buy a 4x5. This will take place shortly.

I also have some Lomo shots that are being processed, in need of scanning. Those I will post shortly as well.

As for now, I will leave you with my exhibition shots. I am not on my computer, so I haven't resized them, and they are stolen off my IAM page, so not the best quality, BUT I now have images on the web again, and it feels damn good!
